Crotonate derivatives for the manufacture of a drug for the treatment of chronic kidney disease and acute renal failure. Use of a compound selected from the group consisting of crotonic acid, methyl crotonic acid, ethyl crotonic acid, salts of said acids, crotonyl-CoA, methyl-crotonyl-CoA and ethyl-crotonyl-CoA for the manufacture of a medicament for treatment of chronic kidney disease and acute renal failure and pharmaceutical composition comprising said compounds.
