Compositions and methods to improve the prognosis of a human with subarachnoid hemorrhage

A pharmaceutical composition for use in a method of prevention or reduction of the incidence or severity of a delayed complication associated with a brain injury in a mammal in need thereof, whose brain injury includes the interruption of at least one cerebral artery, wherein the at least one delayed complication is selected in the group consisting of a microtromboemolism, a cortical diffusion ischemia, a delayed cerebral ischemia and an angiographic vasospasm; said composition comprising: (i) a microparticulate formulation of a voltage-activated calcium channel blocker, whose microparticulate formulation comprises a suspension of uniformly sized distribution microparticles formed from a polymer matrix impregnated with the calcium channel blocker voltage activated, and (ii) a pharmaceutically acceptable carrier, wherein the pharmaceutically acceptable carrier comprises hyaluronic acid; wherein the composition is fluid and is formulated for parenteral injection.
