A method for operating a vacuum garbage collection system (1), wherein said vacuum garbage collection system (1) comprises a garbage collection station (6), a transport pipe system (5) for the transport of garbage to the collection point (6), a series of garbage dumps (3) connected to the transport pipe system (5) through respective discharge valves (4), establishing communication between a garbage dump (3) and the transport pipe system (5) when opening the discharge valve (4) of the garbage dump (3), characterized in that said method comprises the steps of: performing, by means of a level indicator system (11 ), consecutive measurements of the level of garbage in at least one garbage dump (3) arranged in the empty garbage collection system (1); adaptively predict, by means of a control system (9), a future value of at least one operating parameter of said vacuum garbage collection system (1) based on a series of said consecutive measurements, wherein said predicted value of said at least one operational parameter represents a future moment when the level of garbage is expected to exceed a given threshold level or a probable level of garbage in the garbage dump (3) at a given future time; and controlling, by said control system (9), the emptying of garbage into said vacuum collection system (1) based on said predicted value of said at least one operating parameter.
