The present invention relates to a method ofbiological labeling that occurs via a free radical chain reaction.The labeling occurs due to deposition of a detectable reportermolecule from a media comprising a substance comprising atleast two moieties of a peroxidase enzyme substrate (termedherein "cross-linker") in a target site comprising peroxidaseactivity and a biological marker. The labeling reactiondescribed herein may generally be used to detect targets in ahost of experimental schemes for detecting and visualizing abiological or chemical target, including immunohistochemistry(IHC), in situ hybridization (ISH), antibody-based stainingmethods such as ELISA, Southern, Northern, and Westernblotting, and others.
