A system and methods for facilitating drilling and/or drilling a well in anorientation with respect to an existingwell are provided. Specifically, one method in accordance with presentembodiments is directed to producing a magnetic fieldwith a magnetic field source positioned in a non-magnetic region of casingwithin a first well, wherein the first well is cased withalternating regions of magnetic casing and non-magnetic casing. The method mayalso include producing at least one outputfrom at least one magnetic field sensor capable of sensing directionalmagnetic field components, wherein the at least one outputis based on detection of the magnetic field and wherein the at least onemagnetic field sensor is positioned in a second well.
