The present invention uses the ability of the block copolymers havingthermodynamicallyincompatible blocks to undergo phase separation and self-assemble, therebycreatingnanoporous membranes having uniform porosity. An asymmetric membrane comprisesafirst layer comprising a diblock copolymer and ordered pores in a cylindricalmorphologycontinuously extending to a second layer comprise the diblock copolymer in anetwork ofporous structure in which micro and macro channels are connected to provide atortuouspath for fluid flow, of the formula (I):(see formula I),wherein:R1 is a C1-C22 alkyl group optionally substituted, R2 to R4 is an aryl groupor aheteroaryl group, optionally substituted. It is manufactured by dissolving thediblockcopolymer in a solvent system to obtain a polymer solution; coating thepolymer solutiononto a substrate; evaporating a solvent from the coating obtained; immersingthe coatinginto a coagulation bath; and washing the porous membrane .
