To increase dependability for computer-aided systems (2) having locally connected peripheral input devices (3), an insertion protection device (1) that can be connected between the computer-aided system (2) and at least a single instance of the local peripheral input devices (3) so as to be physically unremovable from the computer-aided system (2) without authorisation is firstly proposed that is internally equipped with a filter mechanism for autonomous rule-based filtering of the inputs of the connected peripheral input devices (3). For the same purpose, a method is secondly proposed in which an insertion protection device (1) that is connected between the computer-aided system (2) and at least a single locally connected peripheral input device (3) so as to be physically unbypassable and unremovable without authorisation performs rule-based, autonomously operating filtering of the inputs brought about by the locally connected input devices (3).
