A horizontal type multi-stage press apparatus 1 (a multi-stage conveyance apparatus, a multi-stage press apparatus) is provided with: a loader unit gripper 70A or an open evaporation unit gripper 70C (an upstream side conveyor) that conveys a single plate W1 (a plate material to be treated) from a loader device 10 or an open evaporation device 40 (a first treating device) while suspending the single plate W1 therefrom by gripping the upper portion of the single plate W1; and a hot press unit gripper 70B or a temperature adjusting press unit gripper 70D (a downstream side conveyor) that conveys the single plate W1 to a press position of a hot press device 20 or a temperature adjusting press device 50 (a second treating device) while supporting the single plate W1 by changing the grip position of the single plate W1 from the upper portion to the lower portion. Accordingly, a multi-stage conveyance apparatus, a multi-stage press apparatus, and a multi-stage conveyance method for plate materials to be treated are provided in which a large space above a hot plate or a large lift-up mechanism is not required, and further, in which a driving force for conveying the plate materials to be treated can be made small.
