The present invention curbs the adverse effects of heat from laser light on target cells when unwanted cells are being stripped away by the laser light. A method for culturing target cells while also removing unwanted cells in a case where cells present in a culture medium placed in a culture vessel include the target cells for which the culture is intended, and the unwanted cells which are cells other than the target cells, wherein the method comprises: a laser light irradiation step for irradiating unwanted cells adhering to a culture vessel with laser light in order to strip the unwanted cells away from the culture vessel; a culture step, executed following the laser light irradiation step, for culturing the target cells; and a culture medium replacement step, executed following the culture step, for replacing the culture medium that includes the unwanted cells that have been stripped away from the culture vessel with a fresh one.
