The invention relates to a hydrostatic actuator (1) for a motor vehicle assembly, comprising a housing (2) which, together with an axially movable piston (3) for applying a hydraulic fluid pressure, forms a pressure chamber (4) that is connected to an activation element via an actuation line and is provided for communicating with an equalization volume for volume equalization and ventilation purposes via at least one sniffer opening (5), said sniffer opening being selectively opened or closed, wherein the piston (3) is coupled to an axially movable pressure cylinder (6), the axial movement of which produces a selective opening or closing of the sniffer opening (5). The invention additionally relates to a motor vehicle assembly in which an actuator (1) according to the invention is installed.
