Provided are a preparation method for a high refractive index selenium-containing polyimide and the use of the selenium-containing polyimide. The method comprises: (1) polymerizing a selenide diamine monomer with a dianhydride monomer to obtain a selenium-containing polyamide acid; and (2) subjecting the selenium-containing polyamide acid obtained in step (1) to thermal imidization to obtain the selenium-containing polyimide polymer. The refractive index of a polyimide can be improved when selenium element is introduced therein, the refractive index value is 1.7 - 1.82, the defect that the refractive index of an existing polyimide material is not high is improved, and the use of a polyimide in the optical field is extended.
