A method for identifying an article using a multi-energy spectrum x-ray imaging system (100) and the multi-energy spectrum x-ray imaging system (100) for identifying an article, the method comprising: identifying an application scenario and/or a priori information of an article; selecting a parameter mode suitable for the article from a plurality of parameter modes stored in the multi-energy spectrum x-ray imaging system (100) according to the identified application scenario and/or the a priori information; and identifying the article using the selected parameter mode, the plurality of parameter modes being obtained by means of optimizing system parameters of the multi-energy spectrum x-ray imaging system (100) under specific conditions using a training sample library for various articles.
