A text retrieval method and system, comprising: performing text pre-processing on diagnostic inquiry content which is inputted by a user to obtain a search term which is used for performing information retrieval for the pre-processed diagnostic inquiry content (S10); according to the obtained search term, querying an index database to perform document matching for said search term to obtain corresponding diagnostic inquiry data, and sorting said diagnostic inquiry data according to a degree of relevance to said search term (S20); outputting diagnostic inquiry data corresponding to said diagnostic inquiry content according to a sorting result (S30). Said method and system may achieve the goal of fully automating an online diagnostic inquiry process on the Internet, thus saving medical resources while increasing the efficiency of diagnostic inquiry and the utilization rate of medical resources.
