USE OF ERBB3 INHIBITORS IN THE TREATMENT OF TRIPLE NEGATIVE AND BASAL-LIKE BREAST CANCERS

Methods for inhibiting the growth of triple negative breast tumors and basal type breast tumors by contacting the tumor cells with an ErbB3 inhibitor, such as an anti-ErbB3 antibody, are provided. Also provided is a method of treating a patient's triple negative breast cancer or basal type breast cancer by administering an ErbB3 inhibitor, for example, an anti-ErbB3 antibody to the patient. The above treatment method may further comprise the step of selecting patients with triple negative breast cancer or basal type breast cancer and administering ErbB3 inhibitor to the patient. In addition, the method of treatment further comprises administering to the patient at least one additional anti-cancer agent in combination with the ErbB3 inhibitor.
