The present invention relates to a method for producing a nano-sized metal oxide powder by inducing a decomposition reaction of a metal oxyhydroxide using a mechanical synthesis method, and an electrode material for a secondary battery comprising the nano-sized metal oxide powder as an active material. The nano-sized metal oxide can be efficiently produced by a simple mechanical synthesis method without a complex and ineffective process such as a chemical method. In addition, when the negative electrode material comprising the nano-sized metal oxide as an active material is applied to a secondary battery, it is possible to minimize the problems of excellent initial efficiency, high reversibility and volume change, The cycle life can be greatly improved while maintaining high initial efficiency and capacity.
