The present invention relates to a composition for preventing or treating diabetic or diabetic complications, containing a tara vine extract or a fraction thereof as an active ingredient. The tara vine extract or the fraction thereof, according to the present invention, has excellent alpha-glucosidase inhibitory activities, reduces fasting blood glucose level, and significantly decreases intraperitoneal glucose tolerance test, thereby being useful for preventing or treating diabetes and diabetic complications. In addition, the tara vine extract of the present invention is a natural substance stable in the body and can be used as a material for functional health foods.
