According to the present invention, a construction apparatus of a main cable for a suspension bridge constructs a main cable (2) on a pair of towers (1) separated from each other in a suspension bridge where both ends of the main cable (2) are coupled to the towers (1), and comprises: a pair of posts (10) for a ropeway uprightly installed on outer sides of the pair of towers (1); a fixing rope (20) for a ropeway to connect upper ends of the pair of posts (10) across the pair of towers (1) directly above the pair of towers (1); a transport vehicle (30) for a ropeway including a running unit (31) to run along the fixing rope (20), and a lifting unit (32) which is lifted from the running unit (31) and allows an end (2a) of the main cable (2) to be hung on a lower end thereof to transport the main cable (2) along the fixing rope (20); an auxiliary rope (40) which connects the pair of posts (10) and is positioned lower than the fixing rope (20) for a ropeway; a clamp (50) including clamp bodies (51, 52) coupled to the main cable (2) to be separated by a prescribed gap, and a clamp hanger unit (53) arranged on one side of the clamp bodies (51, 52); and a support carrier (60) including a carrier body (61) having a roller (62) loaded on the auxiliary rope (40), and a carrier hanger unit (63) arranged on one side of the carrier body (61) to be coupled to the clamp hanger unit (53) of the clamp (50).
