The present invention relates to a preparation method of an antibacterial material and the antibacterial material prepared thereby. The preparation method comprises: a first step of preparing a silver-containing zeolite through a cation exchange reaction of sodium cations (Na^+) and silver cations (Ag^+); and a second step of adding a thermoplastic resin and a dispersant to the silver-containing zeolite. The preparation method according to the present invention can prepare the antibacterial material with increased antibacterial properties by adjusting a mole ratio of the sodium cations and the silver cations in the zeolite through the cation exchange reaction, and can prepare the antibacterial material with improved dispersibility by adding the dispersant to the silver-containing zeolite.
