Disclosed are a mobile terminal to enhance vegetable intake of child and to educate efficiency of the vegetable intake so as to enable child to voluntarily take vegetable and a control method thereof. According to the present invention, the mobile terminal comprises: a short-range communication module to receive a weight value outputted from a weight sensor installed in a food tray and information about a moving direction and distance of tableware outputted from a three-axial acceleration sensor installed in the tableware; a display unit to display an image; and a control unit to control the short-range communication module and the display unit. When it is determined that the received weight value is reduced in comparison with the previously received weight value and it is determined that the tableware is moved to a user′s mouth from the food tray based on the moving direction and distance of the tableware, the control unit outputs an image, in which food is reduced, to the display unit.
