A relative position detection system between a vehicle and a ground coil for an air cored linear synchronous motor, and a method for detecting a relative position between a vehicle and a ground coil using the same. The relative position detection system includes a ground coil, a crossed loop induction line, a vehicle-mounted antenna, and a signal processing part. The ground coil is installed in a ground track and has three phases. The crossed loop induction line is provided along the ground coil in the ground track and transmits a position detection signal, and repeats the loop of a length coinciding with the pole pitch of the ground coil. The vehicle-mounted antenna is installed in a vehicle and detects a position detection signal transmitted from the crossed loop induction line. The signal processing part processes a signal sensed by the vehicle-mounted antenna.
