The present invention relates to an apparatus to control light emitting diode (LED) lighting for preventing a traffic accident, which allows a driver to recognize an area around a crossroad through an audio video navigation (AVN) system of a vehicle when the vehicle approaches the crossroad in night or bad weather drive, and turns on/off bar or strip-shaped LED lighting attached to the side surface of the vehicle when the vehicle enters or exists a predetermined distance from the central position of the crossroad, so as to prevent a traffic accident, and a control method thereof. According to one embodiment of the present invention, the apparatus to control the LED lighting comprises: an LED bar mounted on the outside of the vehicle; an external lighting control unit to control operation of outer lighting of the vehicle; and an AVN unit. The AVN unit determines whether the vehicle exists in the area around the crossroad in night or bad weather drive, and allows the outer lighting control unit to apply power to the LED bar mounted outside the vehicle when the vehicle enters a preset crossroad range.;COPYRIGHT KIPO 2018
