The computed factor makes it possible to quantify the efficiency of the optical filter to stimulate non-visual physiological effects in response to light entering the eye of the subject. The efficiency factor is based on the spectral transmittance of the filter through the wavelength visible range, the spectral sensitivity profile of the non-visual physiological effect, and the spectral distribution of the light entering the eye of the subject without using a filter. Such efficiency factors are particularly useful for ophthalmic elements designed to stimulate non-visual physiological effects based on melanoscopic light absorption.
