The ballast 3 located below the sleepers of the track is compressed by the contact and dash of the compression tool 7 causing vibration. The vibration introduced into the ballast 3 during the compression process is registered as a measure of ballast compression. Therefore, even when the ballast characteristics are different, a homogeneously compressed track can be obtained.;
