The present invention relates to a magneto-rheological elastomer friction damper capable of controlling a damping force, comprising: a cylinder having a circular cross sectional surface and having an internal space; a rod moving up and down in the cylinder; a magneto-rheological elastomer located between the cylinder and the rod; a magnetic field generator arranged at the outside of the cylinder; and a controller providing an optimized friction damping force. The present invention controls a shear end energy damping force, a surface friction coefficient, and a vertical retraction force of the magneto-rheological elastomer so as to control the damping force of the friction damper.;COPYRIGHT KIPO 2018
