Use of pneumolysin peptides as antagonists to toll-like receptor 4 and methods for treating toll-like receptor 4 related diseases

The present invention relates to isolated peptides from pneumolysin (PLY) and their use as antagonists of toll-like receptor 4 (TLR-4). Binding of the peptide reduces the activity of TLR-4. In particular, the present invention provides isolated peptides from the C-terminal region of PLY that are effective in the treatment of TLR-4 related activation diseases such as diabetes and atherosclerosis.
