A system and method for combining interactive game aspects into a linear story. The user interacts with the linear story through the NUI system to change the story and image presented to the user. As an example, the user can change the linear story by taking a predefined exploration gesture. This gesture takes the user to the 3-D world of the displayed image. In particular, the image displayed on the screen can be given the impression that the user is entering the 3-D virtual world, allowing the user to explore and examine virtual objects from different perspectives, or to stare around virtual objects.
