A pattern-based English word recommending device of the present invention includes: a pattern database; a pattern analyzing part generating an English word pattern from a corpus storing an English sentence, and storing the generated English word pattern in the pattern database; and a pattern search part converting a query pattern inputted by a user into a searchable query pattern, searching the pattern database for an English word based on the converted query pattern information, and recommending the word to the user. According to the present invention, the device is capable of extracting the most frequently used patterns from a corpus, thereby recommending a proper English word for a specific situation when the user inputs an English word into a query pattern.
