The present invention provides a method and system for providing security for Universal Play & Play (UPnP) operations in a home network environment based on ownership. In one embodiment, a request is received from the CP to perform a UPnP action associated with the UPnP resource. It is determined whether the CP owns the ownership to execute the UPnP action based on the ownership data associated with the UPnP resource.
