The present invention provides the use of a glucokinase activator in combination with metformin. Such uses include treating type 2 diabetes, lowering blood glucose, improving insulin sensitivity, improving phosphorylation of glucose, and improving the therapeutic effect of metformin. The present invention also provides a pharmaceutical composition comprising a GK activator and metformin. The present invention also provides a salt formed between metformin and a GK activator.
