The present invention relates to a method for inspecting a sputum smear sample of an automatic inspection system having a varifocal speculum, which comprises the following steps of: deducing statistics information on a depth direction inspected range of a real inspected sample based on inspection for individual distribution in at least one inspected sample; and detecting an individual while moving a focus of a varifocal lens by the thickness of the depth direction in accordance with the statistics information with respect to the real inspected sample by reflecting the statistics information.;COPYRIGHT KIPO 2018
