In one embodiment, the fluid ejection apparatus includes a die base having first and second fluid slots that are separated by a substrate center region along opposite substrate sides. The first and second inner columns of the closed chamber are associated with the first and second slots, respectively, and these inner columns are separated by a central region. The fluid channel extends across the central region to fluidly connect the closed chamber from the first inner column with the closed chamber from the second inner column. The pump actuators in each closed chamber pump fluid through the channels from the slots to the slots.
