FIELD: technological processes.;SUBSTANCE: invention relates to a catalyst for the synthesis of ethylene during an oxidative dehydrogenation reaction of ethane, as well as to a method for preparing this catalyst and a method for oxidative dehydrogenation of ethane using a catalyst. Catalyst for producing ethylene is described by oxidative dehydrogenation of ethane, which is a complex oxide composition supported on silica comprising 20–80 wt.% (Mo1VaNbbSbcCedOx, 80–20 wt.% SiO2), where: a = 0.20–0.40; b = 0.02–0.30; c = 0.10–0.35; d = 0.001–0.1; x – the number of gram atoms of oxygen corresponding to electroneutrality. Method of preparing this catalyst is described, comprising the preparation of an aqueous suspension containing, in predetermined amounts, components Mo, V, Nb, Sb, Ce and a carrier of SiO2, spray drying the slurry to obtain the catalyst powder, step drying the powder in air in a drying oven and heat treatment in a stream of helium or argon.
