The invention relates to the use of a starting solution (A) in the process for producing fibers for a nonwoven fabric by means of so-called solution-blow spinning. As the solvent for the starting solution (A), water is used. In the water of the starting solution (A) at least one water-soluble polymer and preferably exactly one water-soluble polymer is dissolved. The starting solution (A) also contains at least 1 surfactant and optionally a plasticizer for each of the at least one polymer used. By means of this starting solution (A), it is possible to produce fibers (24) by solution-blow spinning.
