The present invention relates to a battery system (10) comprising a battery (20), a control unit, a plurality of first switches (30) and a transformer (40) having a plurality of primary windings (41) and a secondary winding (42). The battery (20) comprises a plurality of battery cells (21) connected in series and is provided for feeding electrical energy into a first voltage network (60). Each of the battery cells (21) is switchable via an associated one of the first switches (30) parallel to an associated one of the primary windings (41). The battery system (10) comprises a second switch (50) which can be controlled by means of the control unit and via which the secondary winding (42) can be connected in parallel with a second voltage network (70). The control unit is configured to repeatedly open and close the first switch (30) associated with the first battery cell (21) for feeding electrical energy stored in a first of the battery cells (21) into the second voltage network (70) opening the first switch (30) and closing the second switch (50).
