The present invention relates to a battery system (100) having a battery (110) designed to supply a high-voltage network with electrical energy having a plurality of battery modules (BM1, BM2, BM3) which are of equal design and connectable or connectable in series, each of which has a plurality of battery cells (111 ) and are each designed to supply a low-voltage network with electrical energy. In this case, each battery module (BM1, BM2, BM3) is connected via a single first controllable switch (S1) to a first low-voltage connection (130) for the low-voltage network and via a single second controllable switch (S2) to a second low-voltage connection (140) for the low-voltage network connectable. Furthermore, each switch (S1, S2) preferably has a switching position in which it is open. Each switch (S1, S2) also has a plurality of further switching positions (S11, S21) in which it is respectively closed. Also, a switching position (S11, S21) of the several other switching positions (S11, S21) of each switch (S1, S2) is associated with a battery module (BM1) of the plurality of battery modules (BM1, BM2, BM3), respectively. Furthermore, a first battery module terminal of each battery module (BM1) is connected to the first low-voltage terminal (130) when the first switch (S1) is connected to the further switching position (S11) assigned to the corresponding battery module (BM1). Also, a second battery module terminal of each battery module (BM1) is connected to the second low-voltage terminal (140) when the second switch (S2) is connected to the further switching position (S21) assigned to the corresponding battery module (BM1).
