The invention relates to a kettle (1) comprising a body (3), arranged above an electric heating base (8), and a steam pipe (10) for conveying the steam released upon boiling (3) towards a steam detection sensor, said steam pipe (10) having an inlet opening (11) arranged on an inner edge (9) of the body (3), above a maximum water-filling level of the body (3). According to the invention, the kettle has a protection device (20) for preventing water from entering into the steam pipe (10) when it boils, which device has vertical fins (30) extending below the inlet opening (11) towards the inside of the body (3) from the inner edge (9) of the body on which the inlet opening (11) is located, said fins (30) extending in ascending flows of water and steam, mainly under a horizontal plane (15) corresponding to the maximum filling level, in order to fractionate at least partially said ascending flows of water and steam during boiling, the protection device (20) having a deflecting member (21, 33, 34) for deflecting the fractionated ascending flows away from the inlet opening (11).
