The invention relates to a novel type of redox flow battery, termed a "redox particle flow" battery, in which the active positive and negative materials, e.g. the redox pairs employed at the positive electrode and the negative electrode, are solid-phase redox polymers. The redox polymers are formed as electrically conductive particles which are transported, gradually as needed, into the electrolyte-bathed reaction zone, where they form a sediment and percolate electrically to the current collectors, enabling the redox reactions to take place and the operation of the battery.
