It is proposed a method of determination of the mechanical parameters defining the behavior of a cohesive of assemblies of stones by a joint of the mortar. In a first stage of the assemblies of the test compounds of the stones and the said mortar are manufactured. The method comprises a step of the traction of at least one assembly and of measuring the displacements as a function of the tensile stress exerted, a step of shearing of at least one assembly and of measuring the displacements as a function of the shear stress exerted, a processing step of the set of measurements in order to provide a list of values of parameters defining the cohesive based on a bilinear approximation of the softening behaviour of the seal, this law is cohesive characterizing said assembly. In this way, the experimental protocol making it possible to define the parameters of a law which bears on the results obtained are carried out in the course of two types of tests: a tensile test and a shear test. The first tests allow the direct display of the softening behaviour in traction and shearing of the assembly.
