The effect of mandelate and lactate on spore germination

A method of chemically inducing germination of bacteria of the group Bacillus cereus sensu lato, comprising the step of administering to a bacterial population a germinant comprising: inosine; one or more amino acids; and mandelate. The amino acid may be L-alanine. The method can be useful in a germinate to decontaminate strategy, and may be applicable to the food industry or in decontamination of areas which may have Bacillus anthracis spores.
