A tire pressure monitoring unit is described, with a pressure sensor (1), a temperature sensor (2), a transmitting device (3) for the wireless transmission of pressure and temperature data as RF signals, a receiving device (4) for receiving wireless control signals as LF signals a microcontroller (5) which contains a program memory (6), a data memory (7) connected to the microcontroller (5) which contains a library of control programs for controlling the measurement and transmission activity of the tire pressure monitoring unit, from which the microcontroller (5 ) selects a control program in response to received control signals and writes in its program memory (6). According to the invention, it is provided that a charging program, which upon activation by a control signal causes the microcontroller (5), transmits an additional control program, which is received by the receiving device (4), into the data memory (7). The invention also relates to a method for supplementing a library of control programs in a data memory (7) connected to a microcontroller (5) of a tire pressure monitoring unit by an additional control program.
