The invention relates to a multimodal imaging system (2) for the non-invasive examination of an examination object (10) comprising a multiphoton imaging system for providing high-resolution detail images of the examination subject (10) having a radiation source (12) which generates an excitation beam (21 ) near infrared femtosecond laser radiation for triggering a secondary radiation emitted by the examination object (10), and focusing optics (30), by means of which the radiation of the radiation source (12) can be directed to a measuring position of the examination object (10), the focusing optics (30) and a laser head (14) of the radiation source (12) are provided in a measuring head (4) which is freely pivotable, rotatable and flexibly positionable in space, so that the examination of the examination object (10) can be carried out under arbitrary solid angles, and with at least one Confocal detection device which at least partially with integrated into the measuring head (4) and adapted to receive a signal of the excitation beam (21) near infrared femtosecond laser radiation remitted by the examination subject (10).
