To provide services through a server system to IPv4 automation devices that are assigned only IPv4 addresses, service-providing server units are provided to which IPv4 addresses that can not be reached or IPv6 addresses are assigned from a subnet that comprises the IPv4 automation devices are. A subnet configuration unit retrieves first IPv4 or IPv6 addresses, associated server names, and service specifications from at least one higher-level name service server to the server units. For the server units, the subnet configuration unit reserves at least one second IPv4 address available within the subnet. From the first IPv4 or IPv6 addresses of the server units and the second IPv4 addresses reserved for the server units, the subnet configuration unit determines address translation rules and provides them to a router associated with the subnet.
