The invention relates to a method for detecting and characterizing a driving behavior of a driver or an autopilot in a motor vehicle. The invention provides that measuring points which indicate a transverse acceleration (ay) and a longitudinal acceleration (ax) of the motor vehicle (1) are detected by at least one acceleration sensor (2) over a period of time (T) and by a control unit (3) the measuring points (M) of at least one subsection (T1) of the time period (T) a picture space (I) designed as a gg diagram is generated.
