The invention relates chiefly to a control system (10) for a motor vehicle, designed to control a starter motor (11) equipped with a starter motor pinion able to mesh with a ring gear of a combustion engine (12) in order to drive the said combustion engine (12), and an alternator-starter coupled to the said combustion engine (12), characterized in that the said control system (10) is configured so that, during a phase of starting of the said combustion engine (12), the said starter motor (11) and the said alternator-starter (13) are operated in such a way that the said starter motor (11) and the said alternator-starter (13) simultaneously transmit torque to the said combustion engine (12).
