The invention relates to a method for processing an alternating signal produced by a variable reluctance sensor, comprising steps of: from a raw signal signal switching to a low voltage level, respectively to a high voltage level, calculation of a processed slot signal, using a switching hold duration value calculated as a function of a value of rotational speed of the shaft, and from the raw niche signal, measuring the rotational speed of the shaft, each switching of the processed slot signal triggering the congealing of the processed slot signal, for a duration exactly equal to the switching hold duration, such that the switching of the raw signal signal does not result in switching of the square-wave signal processed during said freezing, the processed slot signal being no longer fixed once the switching hold time has elapsed.
