To restrict emission of ammonia, simplify an emission control device and make a small-sized formation of the device in the emission control device for an internal combustion engine for getting driving force through combustion of ammonia.SOLUTION: An emission control device for an internal combustion engine for getting driving force through combustion of ammonia, comprises a catalyst provided in the main flow path through which the emission from the internal combustion engine flows and having a three-way catalyst function and an ammonia absorption function and a control part for changing a mixture ratio of emission at an upstream side of the catalyst from stoichiometric to thin in response to information related to at least one of desorption of ammonia from the catalyst and activation temperature of the catalyst.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 1
