To provide novel screening methods for squalene consuming enzyme and to provide squalene-hopene cyclase.SOLUTION: We completed a screening method for squalene consuming enzymes and/or variants thereof which uses the increase or decrease in the amount of dye synthesis as an index, by introducing a squalene-consuming enzyme gene into a cell capable of dye synthesis synthesized via squalene, and further could obtained a variant squalene-hopene cyclase by the method.SELECTED DRAWING: None
