To provide an asbestos detoxification treatment method capable of more suitably detoxifying asbestos.SOLUTION: The asbestos detoxification treatment method comprises: preparing an asbestos-containing substance which contains at least one kind of asbestos; preparing an asbestos treatment agent which includes a mineral acid and N-methyl-2-pyrolidone; and bringing the asbestos-containing substance into contact with the asbestos treatment agent to detoxify asbestos contained in the asbestos-containing substance. By the treatment method, asbestos in the asbestos-containing substance can be suitably detoxified.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 1
