To provide a thermal load calculating apparatus capable of enhancing a further thermal load reduction for a building by executing a precise thermal load calculation for the building with an effect of an external solar shading object being taken into consideration.SOLUTION: A control unit 2A of a thermal load calculating apparatus 1 includes an illumination distribution obtaining unit 21, a first solar irradiance calculating unit 22 and a second solar irradiance calculating unit 23. The illumination distribution obtaining unit 21 obtains the illumination distribution of light reaching a window provided at a room in a building, the illumination distribution being created using a lighting environment simulation on the basis of weather data. The first solar irradiance calculating unit 22 calculates the solar irradiance of direct light reaching the window on the basis of the illumination distribution. The second solar irradiance calculating unit 23 calculates, as the solar irradiance of the whole scattered lights reaching the window, a sum of the solar irradiance of sky light reaching the window from the sky, the solar irradiance of ground reflected light reaching the window from a ground, and the solar irradiance of an external solar shading object reflected light reaching the window from one or a plurality of external solar shading objects provided at the window.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 1
