To provide a method for operating a motor vehicle having a component which is subject to an operation-dependent aging process.SOLUTION: On the basis of a load profile 202 of a component and existing various operating strategies (204), a damage for each case with respect to the components of interest is predicted (205), the damage is added to an existing damage (210), remaining useful life is determined (215), and an operating strategy 204 for guaranteeing reliability of the component of interest is set (220) on the basis of the determined remaining useful life.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 2
